Setting up a BBS for my cousin running C-Net 128 v7.2+ IT's REALLY basic
right now, it is more to see how it handles new users etc.. The questions
asked are the same nonsense that was done back in the 90's.. Phone number
real name etc. If you want to put in a fake number that is fine by me, the
rest I believe you can just hit return through.. If I decide to either keep this for myself or give it to my cousin when it goes live permanently the new user registration will be shortened..

Give us a shout and check out what Commodore 128 BBS' were like back in the 90's..

I cringe when I think about the BBS I ran in the 90's and how invasive the questions were to sign up. Address, Birthday, Gender? Why the hell did anyone need to know that to login to a BBS?

That's a good point. It's safe to assume that BBS SysOps back in the early
days were sexual predators. I'm glad I always gave them fake info!

I pruned my new user questions a bit. :)

I know.. My CNet Amiga board is the same way.. When updating Image BBS for
the 64 we removed all that extra crap and just ask for name and email now.. Makes life so much easier!

That's a good point. It's safe to assume that BBS SysOps back in the early days were sexual predators. I'm glad I always gave them fake info!
My personal experience from back then is that 1. There were more females involved in bbsing then there are now. 2. There was a more diverse age range then there is now.
So on my BBS back then I had a female co-sysop and she moderated a message area that was for females only. If you answered the questions correctly and were a female you got access to that area by it setting the proper flag. Also was in an adult (18+) message network so if you answered the age question correctly you had access to those areas. So there were some valid reasons for those questions back then.

I also think people are a lot more guarded with that type of personal info these days then back then. I would never provide my full DOB and address to some random site these days, but back then I did it freely and with a smile.

    For porn purposes? lol

It's funny to think about it now days because many of us know that's how
dating sites work. They need to know gender, age, etc.

But some early 90s sysops need to know which porn genre to give us access to!
