• Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade

    From McDoob@21:4/135 to All on Sat Apr 9 12:54:58 2022
    Hey all;

    Finally got my hands on a copy of the newest FF7 remake, and...

    Oh. My. GOD!!! \(@_@)/

    I thought the last one was pretty awesome, for its visual upgrade. But Intergrade is not even in the same LEAGUE! Unfortunately, my aging GPU is struggling to provide me all this eye candy, but it's not unplayably bad.

    Don't be surprised if you don't hear much from me for a while. I'm gonna be neck deep in this game until I finish it. I only wish they had done the whole game, not just the first disc.

    I play it on the PS5. I wonder if my ryzen 1st generation would work with this game.

    I have an i5-6600k, and it's not maxing out on the CPU. For me, the lack of video memory is what's doing the most damage; the 3 GB version of the 1060 just isn't enough for this game. If I had the 6 GB version, a 1600-series, or even a 980 Ti, I'd probably have no problems at all.

    The CPU min-spec is i5-3300 or FX-8350. Assuming there's no problems specific to the 1st-gen Ryzens, I don't think that will be your bottleneck. But again, unless you have plenty of VRAM, it won't be a perfect experience.

    One more thing. For best results, you're going to want to use the stutter-fix and DLSS-disable mods from nexusmods.com. Dynamic resolution is *forced*, and it just looks like dog poop in an Unreal Engine game. And, again due to my limited VRAM, I absolutely *needed* the stutter-fix mod, especially after removing DLSS.

    There's a whole bunch of other mods availiable there, as well; some of them are definitely NSFW, though. The beauty of PC gaming is modding, after all...

    After modding and tweaking everything I could, I'm now getting mostly smooth gameplay at 1080p, with only a bit of minor stutters, in-game settings on High. This doesn't mean I'm always getting 60 fps. It still comes down to 30 sometimes, but I'm beginning to think that's 'by design'. And crowded areas are kind of a problem...but shelling out two grand for a new GPU is a *bigger* problem (hopefully not for much longer).

    Of course, your results may vary...

    Did a bit of work on overclocking my GPU. Got the ol' girl up to 2 GHz and 115% power limit, but it didn't have a noticeable effect. The limiting factor in my machine is definitely the VRAM, and there's no practical way for me to increase that, short of paying at least two month's rent for a replacement GPU.

    Ah, story of my life. Every few years, a game comes out that makes me really want to upgrade... (Q_Q)

    ... I put a dollar in one of those change machines. Nothing changed.

    Well, you're certainly going to have a better time than I am, with more than double the VRAM. But once again, I will still recommend you check out at least the stutter-fix mod on NexusMods.
