• Fidopoll unable to connect to fsxNet Hub

    From BaseballHorse@21:1/101 to All on Mon Aug 16 12:22:22 2021
    Howdy all,

    My big project this past week has been getting my very own BBS up and running and it's been really fun so far! I'm following along with Avon's fantastic tutorial series but have come across some trouble getting set up with fsxNet.

    I've reached the point where I'm ready to send my message to the fsxNet Hub
    via Fidopoll. The log says:

    Scanning 21:1/100
    Queued 1 files (519 bytes) to 21:1/100
    Polling BINKP node 21:1/100 (Avon) by IPV4
    Connecting to agency.bbs.nz:24566 port 24566
    Unable to connect

    I followed along pretty closely so I'm unsure where I went astray. Any tips on where to go from here?

    The issue is the port number it's 24556 not 24566 :)

    But having said that you can now just put in agency.bbs.nz and leave the port number out and it will work.

    For info the 1/100 HUB now listens on 24554 which the default BinkP port when you don't state the domain name... it will also listen on 24556 too for
    legacy folks.

    Try port 24556 instead of 24566

    Well, don't I feel silly now! Hahaha, thanks. I appreciate the additional
    info.

    First, I'm glad others have already chimed in and helped out with your FIRST issue that popped up; trust me, if it wasn't a port # typed in wrong, it would have been something else!!

    For the longest, I couldn't figure out why tqwNet wasn't polling only to find out much later that the domain was set to twqNet. Derp... I'll try to catch yer NEXT issue. :P

    My big project this past week has been getting my very own BBS up and running and it's been really fun so far!

    I had to respond to this one, with a little bit of a chuckle. Yer wife is gonna remind you of this statement 2 years later after you missed yer another dinner because of the board!!!

    Yer BBS will never be done; congrats on getting it STARTED in the past week... but you just opened the book, brotha!!!

    Been nice seeing you make the rounds... w00t w00t!

    She's already baffled as to why I'm doing this, but pleased it's relatively harmless haha.

    If you'd like to help, I have about a million questions. Is there a way to
    have echomail be automatically sent/received? Also, I have a netmail.out waiting to be sent but running fidopoll doesn't do anything. Not sure about
    any of this really :/

    Ironically enough, my wife is the more tech savvy one of us but she's stumped too.

    Mystic version A46 and up doesn't use fidopoll anymore it uses "mis poll".
    In my case mystic in in root of Linux you may use Windows and have it somewhere else, but to poll FSX I do:

    You automatically do things with the event system.

    Hit / and that sends the message with no way out ;)
    If it's not on the start of a line your OK so:
    /mystic/mis poll 21:1/100
    Windows would use the same except backslash
    \mystic\mis poll 21:1.100

    Ahh, now that would explain things. Thank you, I'll take a look into the

    True, but always best to follow what g00r00 says in whatsnew.txt and start using mis poll in A46. Whenever I have an issue with new Alphas it is
    where I know to look |14;)

    I agree and I have been, I just wanted to clarify that fidopoll was still a valid option in the current A46

    I sent out a "fix" for the new versions so you didn't need to change any event settings, a simple bash script (for linux of course) to replace fidopoll binary;

    first rename the current fidopoll binary to something like fidopoll.old, then create a new file called fidopoll in the mystic folder in a text editor and paste this in;

    #!/bin/sh
    ./mis poll $@

    save it, and then chmod +x fidopoll, and then any new version of Mystic will use mis poll but your config can remain as fidopoll and nothing with break.

    If you're on Linux, some of us created a fidopoll.sh just in case *I*, or any other mods or apps or scripts or anything else tries to use 'fidopoll' - it'll still work. Just create a 'fidopoll.sh':

    -----
    #!/bin/sh
    ./mis poll $@
    -----

    And be sure to 'chmod +x' it. :P I figure it can't hurt...
