Quick question, just because I can I tried to get Mystic setup on Fidonet. Anyone have a lot of issues getting it setup? I know I've been working with my RC to get my BBS on it. For some reason, it just seems like it doesn't want to work. I mean the setup for it should be pretty close to how FSXNet is setup right?

I never had a hard time setting up Mystic with Fido or any FTN or QWK network.

What kind of issues are you seeing?

I've had the same problem until recently. With the help of the folks here, I've at least been able to contact a hub. I'm just waiting on their response to see if I'm approved. My logs say the message was delivered, so hopefully everything else is good.

It sort like I can poll since I'm not getting any failures but I never get any packet nor do any response to netmail messages to Areafix. I suspect that the RC doesn't have the hub setup right for my node but that's so hard to prove.

... There is an exception to every rule, except this one.

In a case like that you need to compare logs with your link to see what is happening at that end.

In my own case when having issues like that it is usually caused by a password mismatch but you have to get a look at the logs to be sure.

Another bummer when netmail isn't working is that your questions can go unanswered and unnoticed so you might have to use email to get to the bottom of it.

I can certainly seconds this - when I had similar issues, poll was retrieving just fine, but the packets were all getting tossed away due to bad PKT/FIX/TIC passwords.

I'm suspect that there is something not setup right at the hub end.

When run from the mystic directory, what does './mis poll force' give you?

You have a similar fsxNet address to myself (UK) - is Vince Coen your Fido contact? AFAIK, Vince doesn't support BinkP, so you'll have to poll in order to get incoming messages.

No, my FidoNet Hub is in the US.

../mis poll forced gives me a connection but no packets. I really think the Hub is setup wrong. I'm going to give it bit more of a go but if I can't get it setup, I'm just not going to worry about it and tell the RC to remove my node address.

I think the common thing that I've seen, is once you have setup your new address, you need to shutdown mystic and restart it.

If you dont, while the configs show the new address it doesnt actually present the new address to the polled node. While netmail will probably go out, you wont get your replies, because you arent "authenticated".

Vince does support binkp. I poll him daily using binkp and he polls here also.

He may have your node set to hold so you have to poll to pick up waiting mail. If your node is available for polls you could netmail him and ask him to to set your node to direct/crash so his node will deliver mail directly when there is mail to go.

Trust me I've restarted the board a few times for different resasons and I get the same result. I'm 99% convinced my issues are on the HUB side of things.

Cheers, Al. For some reason I was under the impression that Vince was unable to provide binkp - I shall contact him shortly :)

Do you get a binkp connection to the hub system?
