• FSXNet Global Oneliners?

From Shurato@21:2/148 to All on Fri Nov 17 10:14:00 2023
Is there a door for this that will work on all DOS/Win32 BBSes? I'm looking
to install an IBBS Oneliners door and was pointed to this option on FSXNet.
I was hoping this would be the proper place to ask.

I would love to write a simple one if there's not a decent one around...

I wouldnt' know where to look. All of my resources are ancient, and this is something relatively new. What is available for non-specific BBS software? Atreyu, if you're willing to write one that would be great!

There is not, the reason is it uses message bases to pass messages between the BBS systems. Originally it was mystic only, then some have written mods for other bbses.

As different BBS systems use different message base formats it makes writing a generic door a bit difficult. I suppose you could focus on Squish and JAM, but that leaves out quiet a few as well.

I think Squish, Jam and *.MSG would be the way to go. Heck maybe even
*.MSG only as most of the old DOS BBSes would support that. I miss the
old one that ran on the internet somehow. I wrote a generic door for
that as it just had to connect to the internet grab the info and dispaly
    it.

Yeah, the only regret I have with Synchronet is the lack of third party support. When I ran Maximus and Squish, there were numerous utilities
out there to do reporting, mail munging, and online message editors like
MSGED and TIMED. No such support for Synchronet's format.

Then again, traffic is low now. I don't rightly need to have some of the
tools I needed when I was getting 70-80 calls a day.

... What is the simplest solution?

Ok, thanks! Yeah, I use EleBBS/Win32 which supports Hudson, JAM and Squish
as well as *.MSG. What about bbslink's 1liner? Does that use a web site and curl, or message bases as well?

i've wrote myself a fsxnet oneliner/lastcaller door under os/2 for my maximus.

Maximus' MEX and under the hood it's a big mess of spaghetti code of php, batch files, with gnu utilities like sed, cat, ls, etc.. plus utilities like SendMSG/2 and MX (a message extraction util for Squish).

it would be much authentic to write it in REXX instead of php+gnu utils, but my REXX knowledge is small for this.

REXX was/is pretty powerful. My first gig was working at a retail/mail
order shop with 120 stores. We used an OS/2 dial-up WAN with DOS and
OS/2 cash registers. They'd call into the hub, transfer sales and
payroll information, and be sent new PLU files and information. It was
total deja vu, feeling very much like Fido technology - I'd just started
    my BBS at the time.

At night, the stores would shut down, and a REXX script running the registers would do all of the maintenance, poll corporate, and process the files
it'd received - again, very much like a DOS BBS.

The DOS batch file was huge, the REXX file less than half the size.
