Agreed! It's basically a big electric heater! My mom convinced me to get gas because a flame is hot, regardless! :-)
Not to mention heat pumps don't get nearly as warm as natural gas, propane, oil, etc. They saved builders money though, because they wouldn't have to pay the country to run natural gas lines into the neighborhoods and could slap the heat pumps on the house which was easy.
These days you can get underground propane tanks which is cosmetically better than having lots of tanks against the house.
The other bonus if you have natural gas, you can get a whole house generator that runs on natural gas. Much quieter and endless supply of fuel.
